It depends on what were your courses in 11th and 12th. A career in a similar stream which you had in your 11th and 12th will help you succeed better. Commerce and Science are the two broad categories. In commerce, you can go for arts/design, business, finance and banking.
In Science, you have engineering and medical. These are the traditional streams students choose. Some new streams are also in demand nowadays like bio- tech, Nano technology, agriculture and genetic. Students are also moving in fashion designing and interior designing. We have B.Arch. exam for such students. Research oriented students can go for KVPY and get into institutes like IISC, IISERs. Commerce students also go for CA.
So, there are courses like typical mechanical/electrical and computer Science in engineering to newer ones like hotel management and fashion designing. You can opt for any of these as per your interest.

NIFT lateral entry admission (NLEA) provides an opportunity to candidates who have completed their Diploma in relevant / related fields of Design & Technology for direct admission to the third semester of UG programmes of NIFT. Admission process : The candidates who have acquired Diploma/Degree will compete at an All India Entrance Exam to get lateral admission in the 3rd semester of UG programmes of NIFT. The admission to these candidates will be strictly on merit which will be prepared based on the performance of candidates in written test, studio test/technology aptitude test, and a personal interview. Eligibility : The candidates who have acquired Diploma/Degree will compete at an All India Entrance Exam to get lateral admission in the 3rd semester of UG programmes of NIFT. In such a case, I would suggest you to appear for improvement examinations. You might think that it will take another year of your career and most colleges have a minimum requirement of 50+ percent, but it causes a lot of trouble during placements.
If you opt for college, rather than improvement examinations, your college life will go on smoothly, but at the time of placements, you might not be allowed to appear for certain companies if your overall percentage doesn't meet their criteria.
So, I would suggest you to focus hard on your improvement examinations, score damn good and make this additional year worth. Rest is your choice. All the best!

You could definitely proceed for architecture through lateral entry in various colleges, in the second year of B. Tech courses.
The eligibility needed for it is:1. You should have completed your diploma in an recognized university. 2. You should have atleast 60% as your minimal score to appear FOR LEET entrances or entering the college through direct admission. 3. You also have the possibility of entering such colleges with 50% but the number of available colleges are less and they only provide 15 seats for diploma each year. You could try for the below colleges:
