A PGDM certificate is given by a college affiliated to the AICTE whereas an MBA is given only by an independent University. Both are considered as equivalent in India; what matters more is from where are you pursuing it. For example, a PGDM from an esteemed B-school is any day more valuable than an MBA from an average college, and vice-versa.

I am sorry to say but first of all you'll have to perform really well in any of these exams. Your admission depends on the different criteria that colleges follow and it varies. But today, for most of the college, at least some part of weight-age is given to the profile i.e. your acads and work experience. Assuming you don't have work experience your 12th scores are gonna drag your overall profile score down very much. Most of the colleges have criteria that have a filter on minimum acad scores, so even that would work against you. I suggest you search for colleges that do not pay much emphasis on profile score and do not have

Taking coaching for GATE is upto you but it is better to have a guidance. You can also clear it by self preparation itself provided you study in the write way.
You need to revise your concepts in engineering and solve as many problems as you can to gain practice and also to associate yourself with GATE pattern.
You may also solve the previous year questions of GATE exam to have an idea.
