Hi Shreya, scope of microbiology in Australia is good. To pursue PhD you need to first prepare your research proposal and send it to the university. The research proposal must include a summary of the proposal and then the proposal in detail. You need to write the topic, reason for doing research, how the research will be beneficial to the community and the university, what is the different thing you are doing that hasn't been undertaken earlier. If the university accepts your proposal you will be asked to send in your documents after which you will get the offer letter. Then meeting all the requirements you can begin with the visa process. To approach a University you must contact the dean or the professor at the University and ask them if there is any research going on. Because its always not mentioned on the University's website whether the research in your field of interest is going on or not.
There are lots of scholarships available. There are some specific ones for PhD students and is to the tune of AUD 228500 including for MS. This includes monthly stipend, travel and establishment allowances, Health allowances and tuition fee. You can apply for one after you receive permission or offer letter from the University for PhD.
