Both are professional courses hence both of them are tough to clear
Comparatively chances of passing CS is more than CMA Because CMA results are 1% and CS results are 8%
Scope of both courses have increased since the passing of companies Act,2013
CS has more choices of fields they can work in like compliance, Due diligence,
Secretarial auditor while CMA has few choices like cost auditor
So looking that way Cs has more scope
But choose according to your interest and grasping of topics
If you like law then go for CS
If you like accounting go for CMA

ECE is a more preferred among the one's you mentioned for an aspirant who is not interested in programming. But you simply cannot avoid doing the programming aspects. You will have to learn and program micro controllers and microprocessors during your course for which knowledge of C/C+ and assembly language is mandatory and also do programs in matlab, You will be required to participate in project work for which programming skills are again required.

You can apply for XIMB and give CAT, XAT after your graduation or during your final year of graduation. As per the latest cut-offs you are required to score a minimum of 90%ile in CAT, XAT to get a call from the flagship programs (business management and human resource management). The cut-off is around 80%ile for domicile candidates(candidates from state of Odisha).
But I suggest you start preparing as early as possible. It is certain to give you an edge.

A low graduation score might have acted as a hindrance in getting the calls .Top IIMs are giving lesser weightage to CAT and more to academics and profile. Tell your son to not be disappointed and ask him to give CAT 2016 with greater prep and rigour. Anything about 99.3% should get him through to the top IIMs ,with an year of work experience only helping to strengthen his candidature even further.
