Although, there is no concrete listing of top 20 Marine Engineering colleges in India, but both IMA and RL Institute are decent Institutes conducting Marine Engineering courses approved by DGS (Director General of Shipping). However, if you are planning for bachelors degree the options are planty but at m.Tech level there are very few Institutes providing Marine Engineering programmes. Few of the other good option at Bachelors level are: Marine Engineering & Research Institute, IIT Mumbai, T.S. Chanakya, Indian Institute of Maritime Studies, Birla Institute of Technology & Science, College of Engineering, Anna University, Annamalai University, Cochin University etc.

As far as the future of Marine Engineering is concerned if you want to get into Merchant Navy or want to make a career in shipping Industry this is the best option.

Because they have not any approval from any UGC recognised Iniversity. Actually they are cheating wuth life of Student. The admission tests are fake, any one student with minimum eligibility will pass the Test. They also arrange a heavy dinner for the gurdian of the student who appeared for test. I had also paid initial money for admission for my daughter. I had asked so many times to declear the the University name as I can check out that, their demands are correct or not. But they till date not answred for the same. They also not refund my money as they failed to disclosed as per RTI. Thanks God my daughter got chance in BJMC under GGIPU, and she is in 3rd year.
