Apeejay Stya University is the product of Apeejay Education Society which is in the field of education for almost 40 years. Under the stewardship of Dr Saty Paul, a university was formed with the name Apeejay Stya University or ASU. This has almost all fields of education under different schools. School of Design and Visual Arts is one such school. It is following American system of credits. This enables students to decide on the pace as well as subjects to choose from a bouquet! Students even can decide to change course and credits obtained till then are transferred to a new course. The university has a tie-up with not only different institutions worldwide but many industries in India. This helps in placing students for internships to learn the ropes and tricks of the trade. This is the topic that occupies minds of parents and students alike during the season of admission to professional courses. Yes, it is definitely important. But then, can anybody really guess what is going to happen after four years (for Engineering) or five years (M.Des)? In today's world, it is next to impossible to guess even imagine what's going to happen within two years and here we are talking of five years.
But, all of us like dreams. So, institutions sell dreams and we fall prey to it. Institutes always harp on past success stories and project it for future. But all of us must take it with a pinch of salt. Of course, presently Apeejay Satya University presently indeed has MOU with other institutions worldwide and also with Indian industry. Their present record is also good. But, I would rather advise students to seek admission based on faculty and academic record. Good faculty will always inspire and motivated students to achieve excellence and this alone will help in placements and future trajectory of the career.

Hello, Amity is a big name in the field of education today. Of course hard work over the years by faculty and all those associated with this institute. Amity has also strives to establish it's campuses all over India and that too as per the best world standards. The result is there to see. About one and a half lacs students on its rolls at any given time! M.Des at its Mumbai campus is a course that is covered by students. Though it's not exactly top of the institute in this sphere of industrial design, that space is taken up by. Who else but IIT Mumbai! None the less, Amity is making big strides in increasing its ranking. This, of course, is good for the students. On the whole, placements have always been a pride of place in the scheme of things at Amity. I am sure, this Mumbai campus course will shortly be in top three if not at the top in Mumbai.

It offers plenty of courses in fashion designing, jewellery designing, textile designing and interior designing. These are 1/2/3 year courses. It has lofty aims and is indeed said to be taking efforts to improve on contents of the courses to enable creativity of students a free run. Placements, though not assured, is important for any institute to get continuous flow of students, as then only any institution will flourish and grow. This applies here also. This school has a vibrant placement cell which is in touch with all probable employers like textile houses, couture houses etc. The school also encourages internships which in turn help in placements a great deal. Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology or KIIT began it's journey in a two room apartment as a vocational skill imparting institute to today's deemed to be university spread over 25 Sq. Km area. It's equipped with almost all sports facilities and uses state of the art facilities for teaching. This Bhuvaneshwar based institution is one of the best in Odisha. Right from beginning, it has aimed at placing it's students with the industry. It has a good rapport with industry and it definitely helps to achieve placements. Of course this greatly depends on the students who put in lot of hard work with the motivated faculty to achieve excellence in academics. It claims to have placed 100% students last year. It's a four year Bachelors course in fashion design is a hit with students. With almost 20 different streams of studies, and hence related close knit network with Industry, students get opportunities to work as interns that in turn helps in final placements. It is a good Institute to opt for.

The Design Village or TDV in short is an institution providing education in the field of design and is located in Noida. It is affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University at Gajraula in UP. It is of course a private university. This institute claims to have designed its syllabus in close co-ordination with a school of design in Nantes, France. Not only this, students get to spend one full semester there in France. This of course is something unique. The institute has been formed with lots of industry tie ups. Noida campus has a good industrial base and students here are offered internship in the industry. Based on their performance, students are absorbed by the same industry. Maybe due to this, the institution assures placements to all its students. This may well be true but only time can tell how valid it is. But, then the tie-up with French school and studying there for six months will definitely make students here some special.

Kolhapur, this is the place that is famous in Maharashtra for folk music, folk cinema, arts etc. Since ages. In fact in olden days, majority of Marathi Cinemas were produced here. This necessitated requirement of designers of sets, interior, clothing, textiles etc.
Hence, no wonder that Kalaprabodhini decided to have their institute of design in this city. The courses offered are affiliated to Shivaji University, and hence follow the expected pattern.
However, I am worried about the placements, since Kolhapur is not having a big industrial base. Also, the film studios have shifted out and hence corresponding requirement of designers of different hues is also reduced. Though, it must be accepted that the college is doing everything it can to enable students to get placed. Unfortunately, status or data of the latest years is not available on it's website. But, this could be a consideration for prospective students.

Symbiosis Institute of Design is part of Symbiosis International deemed to be University. This gives it a wide scope to design it's courses as per the market demand.
The institute is located in Pune, the second most industrialized city in Maharashtra after Mumbai. Due to this, the institution is well placed to tap into this pool for placing it's students at appropriate levels.
Again, the Institute has not given out any specific data about placements of students year wise. It indeed has given out a long list of industries that came for campus recruitment. This, in itself is great to show that possibly almost all students must have been placed. Symbiosis has a great name in academic circles and it's courses are considered to be tailored to the market demands and this in turn enables it to place students for internships followed by actual placements after the end of the course. I would say that students have great opportunities for placements here.

This Jyoti Vidyapeeth Women's University was established in 2008 by government of Rajasthan. It's located just outside the capital city of Jaipur. Being for women only, lot of thought has gone into providing security yet enough freedom so that talents amongst girls is brought out in open and not suppressed.
The intake of both design branches offering degree is limited in numbers to provide good and relevant education which is the need of the hour. University has tie ups with many well-known and budding industries of not only Rajasthan but on an all India basis. Focused industry centric approach has helped the university to place almost all students who register for placements. In addition, as per the latest trend, students prefer to go on an assignment of internship. This too helps students as well as university to achieve cent percent placements. If you are a girl and is desirous of studying in women only atmosphere, this is a great place to be in. Placements wise as well as academics wise.

Ansal's University is private institute located at Gurgaon, NCR. It was established in 2012. It offers degree courses in designing through Sushant School of Design. B.Design (Bachelor of design) is an undergraduate course at Ansal's, for which the eligibility is to have a minimum of 50% in 10+2. The admission is based on the marks and a personal interview.
The university offers a wide variety of opportunities to the students in designing. It undertakes many projects in which students can learn more. They have well-equipped lab facilities and also collaborations with few international colleges. They also offer industrial training and education which is very essential.
The university offers internship programs which make the students to acquire practical knowledge in this field. Further, there are few opportunities for placements but the students can find jobs with the knowledge they acquire from this programme.
Those with B.Design can work as fashion designers, interior designers, graphic designers, etc. And they can earn more if they have many years of experience and qualifications. Doing Masters is also recommended.

Design schools are started and run by state government. There are states and there are such schools. In some cases, the schools of designs run by states are simply superb while in some cases these are not worth mentioning. Hence, all cannot be painted by same brush.
What used to happen in olden times was the beurocratic approach that resulted in late decisions, which in turn hampered the untrammeled growth of these schools. Decision making used to be lethargic and hence, placements were also problematic.
But, with Advent of time, things have indeed changed. Agility has replaced lethargy. There is a great amount of hand holding of students as well as industry. This has happened due to different actions by government. Placements, hence nowadays are quite dynamically managed by even state design Schools. Students need not worry on this aspect, at least now a days.

Industrial Design Centre was established in Mumbai IIT in 1969. It was very visionary decision to have this along with premier IIT. It was established primarily to encourage the study of industrial design which is of vital importance for a country on the path of industrialisation. Presently, this department offers different courses and also facilities for research also. The biggest advantage for this school of design is its co-location with IIT. Excellent academics and close interactions with industry have made placements for these professionals a very simple exercise. It's a problem of plenty with students able to choose or reject. Co-ordination with industry, updated syllabus, the latest tools required and futuristic outlook. All these factors have made this design centre and its students most sought after by the industry.

B.Des at IITG is very good where every other branch mostly envy the design branch particularly. The reason is their schedule, curriculum, decent packages which is very different from other regular branches.
I dont exactly know the details but heard from other Design mates that their average salary is around 15lakhs! (Cases like people with no placements, very high packages and people opting for higher studies will be present).
Placements: The placements at DoD are on par with the best of departments and institutes. The department has an institute wide best figures of 95+% of placed students, with only 3 of them still searching for opportunities. Last year, the department had a record 100 % record in placements. The slight decline this year can be attributed to the increase in batch strength, which almost doubled compared to last year. The average salary package of the Bachelors currently stands at 9.7 LPA.
EDIT: UPDATE: The current average salary package for the B.Des students has soared to around 15 LPA. This is for the 2011-2014 batch. I will update the exact figures shortly.

Shree Guru Gobind Singh Tricentenary University, commonly known as SGT University, is located in Gurgaon district, Haryana. The university offers many courses right from undergraduate to PhD programs in various branches. B.Design is an undergraduate course for which the annual intake for this course is 40 and the duration is 4 years and divided into 8 semesters. The eligibility is to have a minimum of 40% in 10+2.
The university has good infrastructure and faculty for B.Design. It conducts many workshops and offers good exposure to the students. They offer internship programs for students where they can learn the overall organizational functions and understand the way of working by the designers on buyers design choice and process after receiving the design.
They also make the students do a project through which they are able to develop their creativity. The grads can work as fashion designers, interior designers, costume designers, etc. The university offers few placement opportunities but the students can themselves find jobs as they get a good knowledge at SGT though their curriculum and education.
