Hi Subhasish,
Although, both the Universities are highly reputed if we talk about state level ranking, however, if we go by popular Engineering ranking Jadavpur University has a much higher rank.
I would like to add here that while choosing the University few of the things which you should keep in mind are: First and foremost the recognition of the Institute (the institute must be recognized by UGC or AICTE), Secondly, the course curriculum and the study material, the infrastructure, the faculty(their educational background), the placement, last but not least Institutes reputation in the job market for which you should visit the institute and try and talk to the current batch students and get few of the alumnae contacts as well. This will give you a real picture about the institute.

Hi Auro,
I would agree with Mr. Deshmukh, the most important thing you should keep in mind while choosing your career path is your own interests and career aspirations. As far as Salary and the scope of the programme is concerned both Physics and Engineering are entirely different fields. Physics can take you in fields which are more research based and need a lot more detailed study like Astrophysics, Astronomy, nuclear physics, Environmental Sciences etc. whereas Engineering will take you to the technology driven career.
I would like to add here that if you are B.Sc graduate you would not find many Institute giving M.Sc Engineering programmes except IISc Institutes and even these programmes would be research based as M.Sc is always a research based programme. Also remember there is struggle in every field. In intial phase you have to prove yourself in any field you join and it is your performance which decides whether you will go upwards or face the downfall.

As Shiksha is an Education portal which believes in giving unbiased guidance, it would be unfair on my part to give my personal judgment about a particular Institute. However, if you are talking about Lovely Professional University Although LPU is a low rung University but it is approved by UGC & DEC. And I would suggest you to explore the other options as well, before you go ahead with this University. Mr Pratyush.you have absolutely no knowledge of what kind of an institution MIT is. Institutions like MIT look for young men and women with brains capable of winning nobel prize. You are asking everyone "Is there a Mechanical branch in MIT?" I think Babu Banarasi Das Engineering College in Ghaziabad will be more suitable for you.
