Dear Amrish,
The eligibility criteria for SC candidates is to have passed the qualifying degree examination. So if you have passed your under-graduation, you are eligible to apply.
The CAT score will be taken into account during the selection process. Last year the cut-off for SC category stood at 78.71. However, this may subject to vary year to year owing to changes in CAT pattern and FMS selection criteria.

It would depend on what you would do in case if you take a break. If you don't have anything to show for during the break, then it would look really bad on your resume. And everywhere you will have to defend why do you have a break. However if you are working and have a job, I would recommend that you take one more attempt at CAT and try to get into the top IIMs.

I think you will get some calls from IIMs and you stand a fair chance of converting those. But that would also depend on your previous academic performance. Also, It totally depends on your preference whether you want to consider new IIMs or not. SOme of the new IIMs have become really good in very short time and are worth considering. However if you are very worried about brand image in short run, you should consider only old IIMs.

Yes, You should start as early as possible. CMAT basically tests a students knowledge of Quantitative Technique & Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, and General Knowledge. Almost all the topics covered in each section consists of elementary school subtopics. In order to have a pretty good score in CMAT one must score well in all the sections. Neglecting any one section is not an option here. However, one can choose to invest more time in a particular subtopic of a section than the other.

A Diploma in Management will not give any fillip to your career. If you are a working professional, you should look at pursuing the two year distance MBA \ PGDM program offered by reputed B-Schools. If you are a fresher and have financial commitments, I suggest you look at getting anywhere between three to five years of work experience and then look at pursuing the distance MBA \ PGDM program.
