Petroleum engineering is more theoretical, but hotel management can be interesting and practical. If you want to get better career options, then as per my personal experience, I would suggest you to opt for hospitality, travel and tourism.
There is a lot of scope for hotel management in India, if done from a reputed institution. Hotel industry is on a high demand and has a wide employment opportunities. The hospitality industry is the second largest in the world. The demand for skilled professionals in the industry is increasing not only in India, but also throughout the world.
The world hospitality means friendly and generous behavior towards guests. Apart from five star hotels, airlines, railways, ships, hospitals, travel agencies, call centers and banking sectors are also come under hospitality.

The hospitality sector is mainly divided into four basic functions:

It is one of the oldest and most demanding branch of engineering and therefore one of the broadest. As a mechanical engineer, you will get to design, analysis, manufacture and maintain anything that moves.
Civil engineering - This branch is looking up these days mainly due to the numerous infrastructure projects that are in the pipeline for India. It is a challenging profile but immensely satisfying as well. Also, with the green way of living gaining popularity across the world, the role of a civil engineer often overlaps with that of an environment engineer as he needs to plan his projects in an environment-friendly manner.
