Understand that there are many different categories of Science like chemistry and physics. Also that there were many people besides the ones the books mentioned that contributed to the sciences .Like Mandelev was the father of the periodic table of elements. Sir Issac Newton discovered gravity and is the father of calculus and mechanics. Albert Einstein created the theory of relativity. So, there is no real father of Science.

VIT university tops the list of the rankings among the private universities as per NIRF rankings 2017. (7th position after all IITs). Mechanical engineering is not really good in terms of placements at VIT university except the main campus(Vellore)but you can study it in Vellore as many core companies are coming for recruitment.
So you need not worry about it. The only thing is you need to decide whether you can pay the category 3 fees at VIT University ( around Rs 4 -5 lakhs per annum including hostel). I think it is not worthy to pay the much fees and study at VIT.

I would say, Thapar University is a better option for B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering. TU provides ample of opportunities to students and it has a better value, let alone good placements.
Also, the highest placement offered for ECE (BE) the previous year was Rs. 14 Lakhs pa by Sandisk.
You will get to be a part of a lot of technical societies for ECE at Thapar University.
The faculty is really good and some of the professors are amazing.
