Apart from what Priya has suggested I would add that you should also visit the various coaching institutes and sit for their first mock which they give to every student who shows interest in enrolling, you can check with Institutes like Fateh, Princeton Review etc.

For SSC preparation advisable would be that you should join a coaching institute as it is a tough nut to crack. The examination is aimed at judging the knowledge of the candidate decision making and understanding of languages of the candidate.
However, if you want to prepare on your own I would say that there is no particular set of books which you can follow, the areas you need to prepare for in SSC Examination are: General knowledge, English, Arithmetic and objective type questions.
