Dear Ashima,
Don' worry about choosing of subjects for IAS till you clear CSAT objective test of the UPSC, which is a general knowledge type test. So first of all devote yourself on preparation for CSAT the topics for which you can find from the official document of the UPSC at the following link:
http://www.upsc.gov.in/exams/misc/csp2011-syll.pdf
Select some best competitive books that nay cover the prescribed topics and start preparing with full concentration.
If you still need outside help you may approach some coaching institute for preparation. DON'T LOSE YOUR CONFIDENCE, as it is merely a confidence game.

Hi Ashima, while you are studying you can work part time for 20 hrs per week. Nz$ 12.75 is the minimum wage for 18 yr and above workers. But you will mainly have to concentrate on your studies. If you work beyond the permitted hours you will be deported back. So be careful.

Hi Vinod, when you come after studying from a college abroad definitely people would nt have heard of it. But if you come back with a wualification and experience it will add value to your career and CV. So my suggestion would be to opt for a university if you qualify and can afford the fee go for university. there are only 8 univ in Nz and all of those are of high repute and recognised world wide. Also the job prospects after graduating from a univ are higher when compared to college graduates. But there is no compromise on the quality of education; its really high in Nz.
If you feel this has resolved your query and you are satisfied
