Most of the engineering entrance examinations in the country have a validation for Mathematics, because of which many students assume that it's mathematics which plays a more crucial role compared to Computers. Some even defend this logic with the explanation that Mathematics was discovered long back compared to Computers, and hence, it's contribution to engineering is far more. However, I don't approve of this logic.
With the evolution of computers, the face of engineering has changed a lot. Automation has sneaked into almost every section of engineering. Most of these automation is achieved using embedded systems which are computer programs loaded into memories which can not be modified or wiped off. Therefore, both Computers and Mathematics play more or less the same role in engineering. Programs have been devised for large mathematical calculations, and are preferred to minimise errors as much as possible. Some branches have a little more of Computers in them like Software Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, some are quite balanced like Electronics Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, while others have more of Mathematics blended in them like Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering.
