There was a culture of getting a government Job and then going on leave to Prepare for Civil Services. Now the scene seems to have changed, the jobs have become demanding and one may not easily get away with a Job at a PSU and start preparation of IAS or other exams easily. Get through with your state geography, economy, agriculture, cultural scenario. Read about state rivers, dams, ongoing policy related to poor and vulnerable. Move to current affairs and read major events happening around the world. Dates, venues etc. Prepare polity section completely it is still the single most section where maximum questions are asked. In pcs prelims too much of cramming is required but you have the edge in Mains examination because syllabus of psc are more or less same as UPSC CSE. I am from Madhya Pradesh and I cleared prelims this year. From that experience, I can say that cracking prelims is no big deal.
