Eligibility for the Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Biotechnology)
The minimum eligibility for this course is a pass in 10+2 in science stream with either mathematics or biology or both as a compulsory subject. For institutes like India Institute of Technology mostly known as IIT, it is compulsory to pass in Joint Entrance Examination J.E.E. while other universities also hold their own entrance tests.
Candidates can also pursue this course without mathematics as their subject i.e. PCB. University like Jawaharlal Nehru University offers admissions for the students who did not have mathematics in 12th standard. Some universities consider biology as a compulsory subject.
How to get admission in Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Biotechnology)
The admissions are done either through a Common Entrance Test (CET) or merit-based direct admission. Merit list is based on the marks obtained in 10+2. The application form for entrance exam is available from the month of February to March. The general process is explained in the figure below.

The test includes questions from physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and in some cases general English with the syllabus of 10+2 followed by major universities. The marking scheme may differ for universities. There are around 200 questions and the duration of the exam is 2 hours. Generally, there is fixed number of questions from each topic.
Selection Process:
Selection is mostly based on the performance in the entrance test conducted by various institutes. Some weightage is also accorded to performance in 10+2 examination. Shortlisted candidates are further called for counseling after which they are offered admission to the institutes.
