Especially for B.Tech Biotechnology, you need to have the following skills to get a job offer:
1) You should have a good exposure to lab equipment and handling should be known with sound theoretical knowledge.
2) Should be able to apply for DBT (Department of Biotech, India) fellowship program in your fourth year starting itself. You will get a good exposure to handle all types of equipment under that fellowship. Where you will be sent to different biotech companies to get ready for a hands-on experience in labs.
3) Hands on experience of the following types of equipment is essential like HPLC, Gas chromatography, Fermentor (small scale), etc.
4) Should have the knowledge of GMP & GLP activities as per ISO standard.
My request is that you choose a good company in DBT training.
If you find yourself not up to mark in above areas, please try to skip to the management side immediately while thinking about GATE or M.Tech.
