IPM is the five year Integrated Programme Management course of IIM Indore. The initial written examination is to test your aptitude, logical reasoning and proficiency in the English language. At the time my friends joined this course four years back, they did it without any coaching, but now as the competition has been increasing, it is advisable to take coaching. All the coaching institutes are more or less the same and will only help you if you do the required amount of self study (you can start with the coaching when you are in 12th standard). This test is followed by a personal interview.

If you have a core degree like M.Sc and MCA and then you will do some certification through distance, it will be beneficial but if you are going to do a core course or degree in IT field through distance, this will be not be beneficial for you as IT is a technical field and also contain practicals as well. Most of the IT firms does not consider distance degree while they hire.
if you have a Bachelors degree in IT then I will suggest you to do some certification depend on your interest like adv. java, php, .Net, web designing, software testing etc and once you get a job you can plan of pursuing M.Sc form distance.
