However its depends on the college from which u r persuing the course, that weather they allow, if its a private college, they may allow, but if it a reputed govt. college, it will not entertain this thing, many people in past have done this, like one of my friend had selected in SBI BANK , so he took a gap of one year from engg, setteled in bank well and again came back for completing the B.E. , but only for practicals and examz. Ultimately it depends on the college.

You can get your son register into Xth standard through NIOS, a mode of open schooling. It is okay if he does not want to go to school, do not ask him either. Set him free to decide what he wants to go for. I would suggest you to work hard with him so as to help him successfully completing his school. I am sure in this 3 year run, he would outdo all his discourage and fear.
