I can appreciate your angst. But Shreenagar NIT has a very long background. In fact, the faculty in even the recently established NITs is also good. Hence my sincere advise to you would be to ignore location but gauge the fascination of your son. Whether it's for CSE or Mech and then decide. Incidentally, both these branches have good potential.
