As far as I know, to get admission in B. Arch in IIT - Kharagpur you have to clear JEE advanced first and then clear the B. Arch paper conducted after the results are out and not through NATA.
IIT Roorkee offers admission on the basis of Architecture Aptitude Test which was conducted on June 21, 2015.
Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) 2015 is an architecture entrance exam for admission into IITs into the 5 years undergraduate B.Arch Course.
Eligibility for Architecture Aptitude Test: Only those candidates who would have given B. Arch program (available at IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee) as one of their choices while filling their choices online will be eligible to write AAT.
Moreover you have to clear JEE Advanced also. To Appear in JEE Advanced you should have cleared JEE Main paper 1.

Architecture is Engineering! In fact it is one of the core engineering streams.
Explain this to your parents. A lot of things interest us. But, more than interest you should find out whether you are good at it. If you are good at it then go ahead and explain to your parents. Or tell them to at least let you give the entrance exam. Score high in it. Then it'll be easier to make them understand. Crack JEE and take up B. Arch. at an IIT - which I guess your parents treat synonymous with "engineering".
It entirely depends on how well you understand and handle the stream and increase your scope of growth. To decide on the course, you should analyse your strengths, career goals, interests, personality, aptitude and ability. If you decide based on these parameters you will put in your best effort and will be successful in your chosen field.
Before you decide what to do, it is important that you become aware of a critical factor for success in your chosen profession. Your exam scores are one part of it considering how competitive it is out there. Lack of strong understanding of the basics will hinder your ability to grasp the advanced topics.
Depending on your interest you could opt for a course. To pursue the right course you need to evaluate this in light of your own future career aspirations. Once you have clarity in terms of the sort of job you would enjoy, you need to analyze for yourself whether you have the qualifications /skills / practical training necessary to be able to get this. If not, then you may want to look at a course that would help you to work towards your objective.

Internships in Architecture are of utmost importance, since internships help students gain a relationship between the academic part of coursework and the pragmatic aspects of designing and building to the execution level. Broadly speaking, there can be two types of internship in Architecture
Summer or winter internship (which lasts 1-2 months )
Mandatory semester internship as per the guidelines of CoA (Council of Architecture)
Unlike Engineering or Science students, where they have the option to do either a Corporate internship or a University internship, most of the internships in Architecture are supposed to be pursued in an Architectural office or firm. University internships in Architecture are very job specific and rare. The semester internship is specifically allocated for internship in a professional office; hence many institutes like to call it “Professional Training”. Now some might ask why it is such that the internships in Architecture are more focused towards professional office environment, the answer is, because of the difference in level of execution between an academic project and a live, real time project.
First and foremost, you have to develop two very important components of your application. First is your CV or resume, and second is a portfolio. The latter holds more importance than the former. I think developing a CV or resume is not a problem, but the trickier part is making a Portfolio.
