As per my opinion, if you want to try for private universities, except VIT vellore there are other great options available like GGSIPU, Delhi or Pune universty colleges and various others in Pune where you will get good environment, good exposure and good study culture, good campus placements too. So, dont go for either of them neither NITs of low level nor VIT because, although I am not much aware but campus placements might not be as you expect from a government engineering college and after all culture around you matters the most, which you will get in metro-cities like Delhi or Pune. This is tough to say that, but any college will not get the admission expect JEE or any CET at least you have to qualifying any exam to get the admission. Another option is management quota, but for that, you have to pay donation.

As per Bar Council of India, Law programme after 12th and graduation Law programme run only in Regular mode and even if any university or college offer you in distance mode than you must check the recognition and approval.
And for knowledge and skills, you should plan for Regular mode only.
