If you have passed your qualifying examination with 50% or your result is awaited, you are eligible. However, some relaxation for CS and ST candidates is also there. JMI conducts its own entrance test for B.Tech/B.Arch. You can download the prospectus from website:

Dear,
For both, you need to complete 10+2 with PCM. There is a common feature if you know engineering, you can understand nuances of flying an aeroplane quickly and correctly. If you are interested in engineering then chose AE and if you are interested to handle the controls, pilot training is a good but expensive option.

If you are planning to be a graduate mechanical engineering then you are advised to study PCM at 10+2 stage and appear for engineering entrance examinations. You can also join Diploma in mechanical engineering after 10th and then seek lateral entry admission in B.Tech mechanical engineering. IITs & NITs do not have lateral entry admissions provision therefore if you take Diploma route for mechanical engineering, you will miss options of doing mechanical engineering in best engineering colleges of India.

You can't compare two different engineering backgrounds. However, civil engineering is considered the core branch and it has more chances to offer government job instead of information technology. This branch is easy to understand and it is also good for higher studies because there are many sister branches of civil engineering. Information technology is a new and challenging background. If you are very good in logic and aptitude then you can choose this one too.
