Animation as the term is defined as a visual technique that provides the illusion of motion by displaying a collection of images in rapid sequence. A lot of creativity is involved in making a clip look virtual, hence before you judge about the kind of course that you are keen to pursue, it is important to know whether you are inclined to make a career in Animation i.e. a field which is highly dependent on one's creativity and sketching skills.
Now coming to the courses, you will be able to get several types of it ranging from a certificate to a degree there are many institutes offering animation related courses from the premier institutes like IDC IIT, BIT, Kurukshetra University, to many other Private institutes which too have gain high on the reputation and quality like MAAC, Arena, Picasso and many more. Yet as correctly suggested by neelu, I would also advise you to go about a course on the basis of your qualification.
