There are various factors one should keep his/her mind while deciding a college for admission:
    -Infrastructure
    -Faculty
    -Facilities
    -Placements
    -Extracurricular activities
    -Location
So now question which arises is that how you can get so much of information about each and every college. Here are some simple tips for you:

    2.Consult your seniors
3.Visit the college personally, if possible

Also, many times the students forget to test themselves which branch they should choose based on their interests, capabilities and talents. I believe after making a clear list of such the student should choose the institutions the think they can accept challenges in or long to study in.

There are institutes of national importance which you should mainly join for research or placement for money like certain IITs, NITs & other Central Universities. But as a hole you'll need a practical experience satisfaction for which you need to research on every institution in your comfort zone, in your target zone or at last what you find as should be. Many a times a less known can turn out to be Platinum for you if not Gold. But it depends on your continuation of after admission sacrifices too at last that I see is no one stressing.
