Candidates having or pursuing their Masters degree in Science Stream are only eligible to take this exam. They should have minimum 55% aggregate marks in Masters, if they are from General/ OBC Category or if they belong to SC/ST/PwD categories, they should have scored minimum 50% aggregate. To apply for the CSIR NET exam candidates maximum age should be 28 years. SC/ST/OBC/PWD/female applicants have upto 5 years relaxation in age criteria

The basic qualification required is Bachelors course in Marine Engineering. The duration of the course is 4 years. For those aspiring to go for further studies options like Masters in Marine Engineering, Ph.D is available. The duration of the Master's degree course is two years.
