Six years is a long gap in terms of starting a career but don't lose hope and start applying to various job vacancies as per your profile.
It is also obvious that the technology and various processes keep changing in the industries and hence upgrading your self would be a good option as well so to increase your chances to secure a good job.
As you have not mentioned anything related to your stream of specialization in your engineering, it would be difficult for us to provide any specific information but then you can always search on Shiksha to get the required information.

Certainly opting for a Degree course (B.tech) after a diploma course would definitely broaden your career scopes and one should prefer to pursue the same through the full time study mode.
There are many institutes in India which offers B.tech course and to know about the same you may refer to the following link:
