VIT is one of the top ranked Private universities in India and it provide the placements around 90-100% and the maximum of the students get the average package from 4.5-60 LPA.
If we talk about the placement in last year i.e in 2016Packages given for mechanical engineers from VIT was moderate. I wouldn't say it is too high either. The placement percentage was around 94, which is a good number.
The highest package in the year 2016 was 22.6 L which was by West line ship management. The average package offered was 6.3 L, which is a reasonable amount.

Vellore Institute of Technology has maintained an excellent placement record by providing its students with ample opportunities to blossom their career goals. The university has been ranked at the 28th, 55th, and 15th positions by the NIRF under the Overall, Management, and Engineering categories respectively. The placement season for the 2022 batch started on July 15. The institutes, 81 students from all four campuses of VIT Vellore, Chennai, Amarvati and Bhopal received the pay packages of above INR 25 LPA in its initial phase of placement season and the highest CTC stood at INR 75 LPA. The PG internship placements at VIT started in March 2021, which is going on simultaneously and has seen participation of 118 companies which has already selected 912 students from the 2022 graduation batch. Some of the top recruiters that participated were Intel, Qualcomm, NetApp, Nokia, Philips, Titan, PayPal, VMware, Media Tek, Danfoss and many others.

Both of these colleges are pretty good in terms of the quality of education which they provide. Pune Institute of Computer Technology (PICT) was specially founded for imparting education in computer science and IT. It provides only three courses in B.Tech which are computer engineering, electronics and telecommunication and information technology while MIT provides degrees in almost all conventional branches. Talking about academics, PICT has an edge when it comes to CSE and IT. I have some friends pursuing IT there who confirmed upon this. The quality of education is pretty good. MIT also is a well-reputed college and has a high demand for CSE and IT. Apart from that, MIT is known for its extra curricular activities and campus life as such. I would suggest going through the syllabus of both the colleges and taking into consideration factors like location, campus, and future goals before making a decision. I would suggest you consider VIT, Pune also. It is better than MIT and almost same as PICT when it comes to CSE.

Placements: Placements are 100% for the computer science branch. The highest package in India was 35 LPA and the lowest package for CS in India was 12 LPA. The average salary comes out to be around 22 LPA. This is very close to previous year's average too. Top shot companies like Microsoft, Oracle, Amazon, Directi, Adobe, Samsung, HP, Visa, etc. to the newest startups like Nutanix, Crowdfire, etc. were among the recruiters. The roles offered mainly include software development and very rarely testing roles are given.
BITS, Pilani is an amazing place to complete your graduation. Your campus life will fill you up with memories that will last a lifetime.

5. Infrastructure has improved a lot. By 2016-17, most hostels will be best in the country.
Cons:
1. Syllabus seems a little outdated.
2. Less research.
3. Not all faculty is supportive, though this maybe the case everywhere.
4. Weather is very tough to adjust too. Power cuts in summers add to your woes.
5. Administrative offices are pretty much like government offices. Work is slow and painful to get done though some officials are helpful.
6. Pretty far away from civilization. Nearest city is Delhi/Jaipur, both 200Km away. However, this is also a good thing, as you spend more time in the college, which somehow I believe helps in the long run.

Heritage Institute of Technology comes under top colleges in West Bengal. CSE is one of the best branch of HIT, Kolkata. The placement scenario here is quite good. Heritage has an upper hand in terms of placement. The placements were pretty fine in last two years. Companies like TCS, mass recruits with an avg package of 3.75 - 4.00 LPA. Some students have also got a package of 6-7 LPA. Apart from on-campus recruits, students have also got a package of 20-22 LPA, off-campus. Some companies like Infosys, Wipro Tech, Xplorsoft also visits the campus. This year Hp is going to visit. Although companies like Hp, do not recruit many students but this gives students an opportunity to excel. The placement percentage is around 80-85% in HITK. There are also few core branch companies like Borch, Godrej, Philips, etc that visits the campus. But they do not recruit many students. A good amount of students go for higher studies.
I would say, the placement scenario is extremely good. But it is fine.

When it comes to petroleum engineering in particular, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has got no match all across India. If we talk about last 2-3 years, almost top 60% (GPA wise, good communication skills, good CV) of the total strength (100 - 110) got placement in core companies like Schlumberger, Shell, Cairn India, Halliburton etc. which is above Rs 10 to Rs 12 lakhs per annum. Rest of them have to accept either the placement offers of IT companies or have to go for further studies. There is a very little scope of off-campus placements in India. Quality placements are very good but quantity placements are not so good in core companies - this means that average package and percentage of batch placed is not that great as compared to other branches of IITs, but ISM, Dhanbad has recently been recognized as Indian Institute of Technology. It may take time to get more quantity of placements, but it may improve in years. In 2017, out of 97 students who appeared for the placement process in total, almost 35 students grabbed the core company job. Some of the students joined the non-core one.
