I think you can opt for this career with a Management background as well however it would again depend on the company and the job profile offered also.

Well the difference might be slight in case of the curriculum, but when implemented the two courses will differ in the complete approach and this is the reason why it is been advised to go for a regular course rather than a correspondence course. Same ways, I would mention that if you plan to make a career on the basis of this particular degree, then try to opt for the regular degree from a good institute.
