To get admission in NIT Rourkela, For General candidates to qualify for admissions to NITs/IIITs/GFTIs, they should have secured at least 75% marks in class 12th exam or be in the top 20 percentile in class 12th exam conducted by the respective boards. For SC/ST candidates, the eligibility criteria is 65% marks in class 12th.The Home State: Rank - 16679 And Other State: Rank - 12898 for mechanical engineering.
The placement of the mechanical branch is quite good at NIT Rourkela. Core companies like Tata steel, Vedanta, Tata motors, Maruti - Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra and many more visit our campus every year and recruit meritorious students as Graduate engineer Trainees. Sometimes PSUs also come NIT Rourkela because it is one of the top NITs. Fortunately last year Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) visited our campus. Average package of core company is more than 8 LPA.
Since core companies are limited in number and select few students only, so many other students have to go for analytics, consultancy and IT sectors. A number of students get placed in TCS,Mu Sigma,Infosys etc every year. As far as job is concerned, almost every sincere students of ME branch get placed on campus ,whatever be the companies. Package offered by these companies are not so high but satisfactory.
