People do get admissions in NITs with ranks below 1500. This majorly depends on which category you belong and which branch i.e specialisation you are applying to. Visit websites of NITs to find out last years cut off.

In engineering, it is important that you get degree from a reputed college. In IITs/NITs, it is unimportant which branch you are from, everybody gets placed in good companies. A graduate from computer science and Production engg both get packages in the range of 6-7 lakhs. It's important you follow your passion. See which branch you like and go for it rather than thinking which has more 'scope'. All the best!

Hi Sunil,
All the good and top ranked universities in US requires GRE and TOEFL score, how ever there are some universities which do not require GRE score, but those universities are not good.So if you aspire to study in some good Universities in US than it would be always advisable to take GRE exam.
