First of all I would say that you need not get upset as 12th board is not an end to the world. Secondly, before looking for the government colleges you need to decide which stream you want to opt for whether you want to sit for Engineering Entrances or want to get into B.Sc programmes or you want to get into fields like Economics, Statistics, and Actuarial etc. So, ones you have decided this we can take the step further and decide what needs to be done.
Hope this will be of help. Feel free to put up more queries.
Thanks,
Pooja

The most important thing which you need to keep in mind while choosing your stream is your own interests and career aspirations. Although, you have not scored very high in your Board, but, if you have given National level Entrance Examinations like AIEEE and scored well their your definitely get into Engineering of your choice or else if you have not given Engineering Entrance Examinations and are looking for other options, based on your own interests you can opt for B.Sc in various streams, BA or BBA could also be an open options for you.

Although, you may get diploma or certificate programmes through various open universities like IGNOU, KSOU, or institute like IPWE, or short term courses provided by Indian Railways Institute of Civil Engineering, but advisable would be that you should opt for a full time programme as Engineering programme whether Diploma or Degree generally add more value to your CV if it is full time, moreover such programmes involve more practical work than other courses. However, the last decision would be yours based on your interests, career aspirations & circumstances.
