Pihu, I am not sure how good you are with maths and programming. If you are, then you must pick up a language whether PHP/ HTML5 (web dev), .Net (for software dev) Java/ Android (for apps) or C#/ Unity (for games). However like I mentioned, you must be good with programming to move ahead in this area since you have to compete with other MCAs and BTech(CS) applicants. So choose your internship/ industrial training very carefully. Do not just go for the cheapest to save money. See the IT company's credentials on the net. For example if someone provide LIVE PROJECTS are they there near the TOP on PORTALS like JUSTDIAL? Or if the company is registered with STPI (Software Technology Parks of India) - all good IT companies are registered with STPI. If a company spends money to market themselves to customers, only then they are able to get LIVE PROJECTS. Also, if you are an average programmer, and if you you're better with creative work, then you can head for web design or even VFX/ Animation since there is a huge requirement coming up in that domain. SMU offers various programs through distance mode.
Recently professor of SMU states that “Sikkim Manipal University - Directorate of Distance Education, offers several programmes, all approved by the Distance Education Council (former regulator for distance learning which stopped functioning from 2012) and awards approved degrees only. While the self-learning material forms the basis of learning in distance mode, duly supported by the mandatory face-to-face counselling, the university also supplements the learning with additional material through digital technology,"
Whereas DEC denies that they had not approved any such course. And UGC has also not released any regulatory framework for such courses.
The situation is a bit dilemmatic here. You should contact the concerned person in regulatory authorities to know the reality.
Do not go for any course without having full details regarding its affiliation, recognition, etc.

More than the name of the college, it is the branch and your interest in the subject, which will help you achieve your goal.
As regarding placement, if you are happy with college, your talent and skills will help you in securing a job and not the College/Institute's placement records. Whether you give priority to the course or the college is a personal decision. If you are passionate about a particular discipline, you would choose to do it in any good institution.
