The choice is yours and you are alone. Always remember, preparation entirely depends on your caliber and understanding of the subject. You may start preparation when you feel comfortable.
The minimum eligibility for CLAT is class 12th. This eligibility is for the universities, which provide 5 year law course after class 12th. For the universities, who have 2 years degree law school, the minimum eligibility is graduation in any field.
