Two categories of customs and central excise department are:
- Checking of incoming/outgoing people/ships/cargo for compliance is the work of custom officials.
- The department has wings prevention and appraisal that work under the rank of assistant commissioner.
To take entry you need to take UPSC exam for the post of senior superintendents, Officers of customs and central excise services. Appraisers in customs are those who missed the examination by few marks. State Public Service Commission Allied Services Examination gives state level jobs in customs and excise.
