I think you have to research upon the entire format first and you must have a clear idea on syllabus . If you proceed further then, it becomes easy for you to check and discover where you are lagging behind.Come into contact with a few who have done well in the exam.

Hi,
There are a few points that needs to be in mind while selecting optional for IAS:-
*First and the foremost, you must be comfortable in grasping the concepts of the subject.
*Availability of study material is also an important factor in determining the optional subject.
*You should not choose a subject just because it's said to be scoring or your friends are choosing it.
Considering your education background, opt for Electronics or Communications along with a subject for which you possess interest. For forbidden combinations visit UPSC website.
So Once and for all, it's about your own comfort in understanding the subject and the process

Rather than depending on a crash course for a secure future I suggest you do something more concrete like M.E. or MBA.

Hi,
You can look for class XII directly through NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling), which is recognised by the Central Government and is equivallent to any other board of education. It is the largest open schooling system in the world with a record enrolment of almost 1.5 million students in both secondary and senior secondary level.
And, indivuduals from NIOS are definitely eligible to write any entrance exam and opt for their field of interest. For details, visit the link below:-
