It is difficult to assume as to for which course you are looking forward to write IIT exam, if in case for the M.Sc, one requires to write IIT JAM. There are several references available in the bookstores and also there are many coaching institutes for the purpose. To eligible for the exam its important to be a similar graduate degree holder.
Coming to UPSC, the commission conducts several exams for the govt services like IPS, IAS, IFS, CDS etc.
To pursue a career in this one, requires to write and qualify the UPSC exams, which are conducted in two phases: Preliminary test (CSAT) and Main Written Test.
CSAT: It is an Objective type examination consisting of Two Papers that is common to all candidates from 2011 having special emphasis on testing their aptitude for civil services as well as on general knowledge.
Main Exam.: Those who qualify the CSAT exam are shortlisted for the Main exam. It is a descriptive (essay type) examination.
