The opinion may vary from person to person on this, according to me; I think you should choose the subject from your own stream as you will have more knowledge of your own branch rather than the branch which you have not studied.
I would like to add here that while choosing the subject the most important thing which you should keep in mind is your own interests and capabilities so, if you feel more comfortable with arts subjects you can choose arts stream subjects.

Although, both the Institutes are decent but as far as the placements are concerned no institute can guarantee you placements as more than the institute its your own capabilities, performance on the programme & how you use the knowledge earned which helps in getting the best placements. I would like to add here that the good Institutes always try to get the best companies on their campus.
