In india its mostly just theory and in colleges that have project based learning, ultimately students just copy the projects or get it made from freelancers. Faculty members will only guide you. They won't teach. After four years. You cant call yourself an engineer because you did everything and learned everything other than engineering.
Outside, at least the approach is more practical and course curriculum is less. So people don't waste time in copying and pasting assignments and just attending classes for the sake of attendance. They would actually learn something.
Also, here we have a fixed curriculum. Outside the curriculum is flexible and you have more freedom. You can choose what subjects you want to study.
