Although it is quite early to begin preparing for the CAT as the ideal time to begin with the coaching for CAT would be in the final year of your B.tech, but then you can begin with brushing up your basics in Quant and Language. For this you may refer to various competitive books that are available in the market. Other than this research over a good test prep institute in your locality would also be a good option in the initial phase. There are many institutes in India which are offering coaching for MBA entrances like IMS, Career Launcher etc, and to know about more such institutes, please refer to the following link:

If you want to pursue MS in Embedded systems, you should apply to UK and not Canada. The career opportunities for this course are much better in UK. Infact, the course is widely offered in UK and offered in very less universities in Canada as a full time masters program. Some of the good universities in UK offering this course are:
1) University of Birmingham
2) University of Leeds
3) Kingston University
4) University of Bradford
5) University of Kent

The test you would have to take in order to get admission in these universities are the GRE and the IELTS. In your case, I would say as you are still at the early stages of your career the best option for you would be to opt for an MBA program from a decent full time University, for which you should prepare for various Entrance Examinations like CAT and appear for the same starting from end quarter of the year 2011. Till the time you appear for these examinations and get a decent University you can continue with this job.
If you feel that you can not go for full time program then I would suggest you to keep looking for a job in operations and simultaneously go for a short term course like PGD in Banking Operations. Few of the instit
