Both the streams are very good. The only difference is that after doing B.Sc. Biotechnology, you have to do M.Sc. and Ph.D. After M.Sc, you will not get a good job while after doing M.Sc. Microbiology you can go for the government jobs.

    Hi,
Microbiology is by far a better option than biotechnology. It has better placement chances in the industry both research and lab testing. If you talk about teaching then biotechnology would be a better deal since it offers you a wide spectrum of subjects. Microbiologists will be able to teach for only one stream as it is very specific. Biotechnologists can teach a vast amount of subjects although not very precisely. It's more like the generalists vs specialists scenario.

Having a biotechnology degree opens up many more doors, in various fields like industrial processes, management jobs while microbiology jobs are more research oriented. You also have an option of doing MBA in Biotechnology which is a new and emerging field of work. The job market while not absolutely lucrative is growing with the biotechnology sector on the increase in India. There are jobs in the agricultural, pharmaceuticals, medical and various other fields, making it a very flexible subject. Also, there are much independent Biotechnology startup companies that promise a good future. After a few years of experience, the salary does

The First important thing is that both are good, It depends on your interest and what you want to aim in your life. Microbiology is a basic subject which is a sub section of biology. It deals with the life cycles and behavior of microbes (bacteria/fungi etc. ). Biotechnology is a wider subject and covers most of the microbiology in it. As per job perspective, both microbiology and biotechnology has their own advantages. A biotech graduate can find a job in the field of microbiology and vice versa.

Both the streams have their own scope and it depends on your interest that which stream you choose. But, I will suggest you B.Sc Biotechnology because it has more scope than microbiology. Microbiology is a part of biotechnology only. So, you should opt for B.Sc. Biotechnology.

Both have a good scope in Bangalore as my friends say but it all depends on your interest because if you study something willingly then you surely end up by mastering it if you are really enthusiastic in your education.
