Both B.Sc. Biotechnology and B.Sc. Microbiology are good undergraduate programs in the field of life sciences. Both B.Sc in Biotechnology and B.Sc. In Microbiology has its own scope. But for general comparison, Biotechnology is a vast field and you need to study different scientific areas. Whereas Microbiology is a small area of Science and focuses on particular domain. If you opt for biotechnology, you will have to study microbiology as well, but if you choose microbiology, you won't need to study biotechnology. Firstly, we have to remember that both Biotechnology and Microbiology are applied fields of Biology. Biology, in itself is like a vast web which connects many different fields together. We have fields such as Biostatistics, Bioinformatics and Biophysics. Even microbiology has varied fields in the Masters level such as Applied Microbiology and Medical Microbiology. I would like to say that B.Sc Microbiology has a greater focus on chemistry especially biochemistry. 5 years agoIt is up to your interest solely. But if you wish to go in government sector, then you will get microbiology jobs very easily as compared to the Biotechnology. And, if you desire to have a private sector based job with perks and all, then biotech is better chosen. -

Microbiology, your main focus will be on Microbes, which will include different aspects of Molecular Biology, Genetics, Meta genomics, Industrial Microbiology, Pathology etc. Having said that having a Biotechnology degree opens up many more doors, in various fields like industrial processes, management jobs while microbiology jobs are more research oriented. Both are good and equal employments, it depends on your interest, biotech is a wider area whereas microbiology is a specialisation. In the northern region, LPU is good for both programs, you can compare these two on basis of academics, placements and visit the website.
