No, it is not. In fact, CAT is the most inflexible and random exam you can take. If you are not a good test taker, you will struggle to get into a decent college through CAT. You just get ONE SHOT at the exam each year. If you cant hold your nerves, you will have wait another year to find out if you can hit that 99. percentile score. If you are experienced or if you have a good overall profile, consider taking GMAT/GRE. These exams are much more predictable and flexible. You don't have to wait for an entire year to retake these. All the best! Hope this helps.

CAT is accepted by all the IIMs and other major B-schools but it is not mandatory for admission in every Indian college. Many colleges have their own entrance exam.

No, some colleges have their own entrance exams like SNAP (for Symbiosis), IIFT XAT (for XLRI), Maharashtra CET (for top colleges in Maharashtra through CET). CAT is important to get admission into IIMs, IITs and other top colleges.

Either CAT/MAT/CMAT is considered so give all of them. Also, a good percentage is needed. GDPI performance is a key factor in the best schools.

CAT is mainly for IIMs, but other colleges also do accept CAT scores. If you are looking for other than IIMs, then you can appear for MAT which is easier than CAT. Some colleges have their own entrance examinations.

CAT is an important exam to take admissions into IIM's and many other top b-schools. Though, some institutes conduct their own entrance exams for Management. But most of them also take admissions through your CAT score.
