Every visual media is a visual communication, while every visual communication, needs not be a visual media. More, visual media is always "createdandquot;, while visual communication needs not be so. For instance, that (in) famous Vietnam war photograph of that Vietnam girl running towards the photographer. When it happened, it wouldn't have been designed. The photographer saw the visual happening and captured the communication in it.

Hello Radhika, as far as communication skills are concerned, read a lot of good books (novels, autobiographies, self-help books, etc). Attend seminars like TEDx in your town, volunteer at various events, try communicating with new people. I am sure this will help you out a lot. Software skills can be improved by taking some courses offered by local tutors in your town itself.
All the best.
