Hi Garvit,
On premise catering happens when your kitchen is within the venue where an event is held. The food is prepared on site and served there as well.
Off premise catering involves a kitchen at another location. The prep work is all done at the kitchen and is transported and completed at the venue or is completely cooked at the kitchen, plated, covered and transferred via company trucks.
Once there, the food is served or set up. Think anything from Subway delivering foot longs to a corporate lunch to an expensive caterer bringing your food to your wedding for offsite.
Usually event halls and other venues where banquets and weddings ar

Hi Dheeraj,
It is easy to understand why people think that starting your own catering business is easy. There seems to be minimal effort involved in it, especially if you are not closely familiar with those who are in the catering business
1. Not everyone who can cook can become successful in the business. You need to be familiar with as many recipes as possible, and you need to be an expert in making as many of those dishes as you can.
2. You need to know where to get your supplies from. You see, in a catering business, you need to buy materials in bulk.
3. Before you actually invest your life's savings into this business, you need to est

Hi Kareena,
The word 'chef' is the short form of the French 'chef de cuisine', meaning 'chief of the kitchen'. And as the chief, he has many people working under him including several cooks. Usually in our homes, a 'cook' toils on his/her own! Perhaps much more important, a chef gets paid a lot more than a cook. Chefs can, and often are, called "cooks". The one distinguishing factor is that a chef has earned a degree from a culinary arts school. Without that degree, one cannot earn the title "chef". Yes, they basically perform the same job, but typically a chef is more specialized and has a wider knowledge base of all activities involvi

HI Kareena,
An actual 'chef de cuisine' is the number one in a restaurant kitchen. That is the most prestigious job in the kitchen, as well as the one with the highest pay.
It's a job that usually requires many years of experience as a commis, demi-chef de partie, chef de partie and finally sous-chef.
In some larger higher end restaurants, one chef de partie is 'special': the chef pâtissier. In these joints, the patisserie is very much independent from the rest of the kitchen, and the chef pâtissier runs that. In these cases, he'll be 'equal' in rank to the chef de cuisine, at least as far as outside representation is concerned. The pay
