There are two possible scenarios here when you are talking about the 'average' student. First one is the average guy who walks into the corridor of a premier B-School but utilizes every opportunity that the institute provides and transforms himself into an extraordinary guy. The second one is any guy who does not so well but also not so bad at the B-school. Now, in comparison with his peers, he is 'average'. So probably he gets placed in a Day 4/5 company. That is the end of his being average because the corporate world is whole another game.

Firstly, you need to plan and organize your activities. Like the time remaining after work hours, effective utilization of this time is needed.
Also, time spent in traveling should be utilized.
Start reading a newspaper like The Hindu, Editorial section to improve in verbal section.
Also, keep formula's /basic concepts ready on cards. So that you could read these cards during breakfast or idle time.
Also during lunch break or so see, News channels.
Things will become easy once you are sorted with the correct utilization of available time. CA

Government banks are also known as Public Sector Banks. The procedure to apply for the job is that you must appear for an entrance exam. Upon clearing you can apply for the job.
Institute of Banking Personnel Services (IBPS) has the duty to conduct entrance exam for 19 Public Sector Banks. These banks participate in two entrance exams from IBPS:
IBPS Clerk
IBPS Bank PO
You can appear for any of these if you hold a graduation degree. The IBPS Clerk exam is conducted twice in March and sometime in October. On the other hand, IBPS Bank PO is only conducted once in June.

IIM's are still in the phase of earning a recognition for their 1-year program. I would rank ISB as the top most choice for the same. It is ranked under top 30 colleges for doing MBA from around the world. The program, course structure, faculty and post-MBA placements are excellent in ISB and have been a threat to all major IIM's one year MBA programs.
